4.6 Radon
I would develop a national awareness campaign to radon by collaborating with local news stations and local newspapers, and through flyers distributed at elementary, middle and high schools in the parent envelope to make sure all parents are aware that there are free kits available. Coming from the school will increase their motivation to test their homes after realizing their family's health may be in danger. I would also collaborate with the American Lung Cancer Association (ALCA) and other lung associations to increase awareness through their platforms. I would like to form these partnerships with the stakeholders prior to January, which is the national radon action month, so the media messages, flyers, and PSA's are ready to be distributed January 1st. I would ideally like that the news station mentions the free test kits weekly. In the newspaper it would be great if the free radon test kits could be shown as a coupon so families are more inclined to cut it out and put it on the fridge to serve as a reminder. The flyer would be a little like the second picture below with the addition of a phone number, location, and website about getting free test kits. With the ALCA, the media messaging through facebook, twitter or instagram that they too would feature radon and facts about it. For example, On January 1st their message could include," January is National Radon Action Month. Radon is a odorless gas that is the 2nd leading cause of cancer. Test your home today. Free Kits available at epa.gov/radon/nram" and messages similar to this can go out daily. The goal would be to reach as many people as possible. Our reach would be determined by the number of test kits ordered.
Hi Mayra,
ReplyDeletei love the fact that you've included the two flyers for the campaign. I think both flyers contain good information and simple and easy to understand messages. I also like the fact the test kits will be distributed through public schools for the students to bring home. I think it's an effective way to increase access to the test kits for a lot of houses in the neighborhoods.
Hi Mayra,
ReplyDeleteOverall, you have great ideas for a national awareness campaign about radon. I think collaborating with local news station and newspapers is a great idea to inform people about your awareness campaign. I also like the idea of giving out flyers like the ones that you posted. Thank you for including the fact that January is a national radon action month.

Hi Mayra,
ReplyDeleteI like that your campaign is straightforward and simple. The flyers you suggested are appropriate and easy to understand for your target audience. I think it's great that you chose to target schools in order to influence and motivate change to ideally impact student's home environments. Kids tend to be eager to share information they learn in class and can pass this valuable information along to their parents.
